Figures shown in the first ten days of July are evidence of deflation processes in Ukraine, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said while opening a government meeting on Wednesday. "Apart from two regions, the rest [of regions] have significant deflation," she said.
Tymoshenko expressed hope that, in whole, deflation would be registered in Ukraine in July.
However, she said that prices for poultry meat and bread could grow.
According to the forecast made by the government in a draft of amendments to the national budget for 2008, a deflation rate of 0.4% was planned in July, deflation of 0.5% in the third quarter of 2008 and inflation of 15.9% in 2008.
Despite deflation expectations, Ukraine saw inflation of 0.8% in June and inflation of 15.5% in the first half of 2008.
On July 11, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, failed to pass amendments to the national budget for 2008.
